Apple Announces New Mac Pro

Many music, video and animation professionals had been wondering if Apple were to ever release a new Mac Pro. We’ll today, they finally did, and with a shocking new design.

New Mac Pro Specs

* 12-core Intel Xeon E5 CPU * Thunderbolt 2.0 * Support for high resolution, 4k displays (Red Camera editors will be happy) * PCIe-based flash storage * Four usb 3 ports * Intel Xeon E5 processor with 1,866MHz DDR3 RAM capable of 60GB/s data transmission (wow, that’s fast)

Cons For Many Music And Video Professionals

* No PCIe 3.0 expansion slots (really? Many professionals still need this option) * Horrible looking design (does not look like a sleek, modern design we have come to expect from Apple)

Is It Necessary For Musicians?

Probably not. With today’s cpus, you can record plenty of tracks and stack many plugins in your favourite daw using a Macbook Pro or iMac. Having so much processing power will most likely benefit video editors and animators. In music, I guess you can benefit if you are running a huge orchestral session natively, or are mixing for picture in sessions with hundreds of tracks. In that case, you would not need a Pro Tools HD rig and can handle it flawlessly with the native processing power of the new Mac Pro. Prices are not announced yet for the new Mac Pro, but you can bet a full decked out configuration is going to be expensive (on a PC, you could probably put together a similar spec system for 1/3 of the price).

(Looks like a small trash cash, very disappointed in the design)
